Originally commissioned by Peter and Waldo Stewart for the Stewart Title Building in north Dallas, the mosaic was moved to the entry of the Dallas Museum of Art when its original location was demolished. The mural is based upon the concept of the four elements, from left to right: water, earth, fire and air (or sky). In 1993, Comerica Bank-Texas made a generous donation to restore and move this spectacular mural to the entrance of the Dallas Museum of Art's Museum of the Americas. The Mexican artist, Miguel Covarrubias, was an artist, ethnologist and illustrator. In Genesis, he used Native Indian cultural themes and iconography in rich hues and sweeping forms.
